Did you know that pesticides are the only toxic substances that are intentionally released to kill living things in our environment? Everyday pesticides are being used in our homes, schools, office building, farms, parks and the list goes on. However, have you ever stopped and taken a moment to think about what these pesticides are doing to us?
While doing a little research on the chemicals in pesticides I was surprised to find so many studies connecting pesticides to health issues. Even minimal exposure amounts of pesticides in the environment can cause chronic health effects. Reading through some of these studies personally has caused me to be more cautious of the products I purchase and bring in my home.
According to a study that was published in May 2010 from the University of Montreal and Harvard University, children that have been exposed to pesticides are more at risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Another study published in February 2009, found that children who live in homes where pesticides have been used, are twice as likely to develop brain cancer. You read that right...Brain Cancer! I was speechless after reading this study from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. http://www.toxicsaction.org/problems-and-solutions/pesticides
